♦ Potters Hill, New House Build | ♦ Project Type: New House Build | ♦ Location: Crockerton, Wiltshire | ♦ Financial Budget: £250K | ♦ Time Budget: 6 months

Constraints / Challenges: Site had restricted access and was built in close proximity to other dwellings. Incorporating modular timber engineered framing technology. Built during one of the longest and coldest winters for some years.

Potters Hill 2017/18 – Our clients had purchased a small parcel of land in the beautiful village of Crockerton, Wiltshire. They had commissioned a contemporary three-bedroom barn style house build, designed to couple all the latest technology and building methods associated with a modern new building development.

The design was an attractive ‘L’ shaped building with a beam and block oversite. Elevations formed with low level green stone, faced work with raised pointing chosen to tie this modern building to the surrounding local building traditions. The building was constructed from a wooden engineered frame, delivered to site in modular form, we placed and fixed this in a matter of days – memorably going up during one of the coldest weeks during one of the coldest winters we have had for years.

The roof was formed using mild steel powder coated sheet, finished with a crimped ridge method with matching eaves and facias.

Unlike on Grand Designs the windows and doors turned up on time and within budget (thank you Velfac). We were modestly confident because we had the responsibility of supplying the final measurements before their manufacture – all windows including the double height master bedroom fitted exactly – pats on the backs all round – and – phew!

With the windows and doors in place the external cedar cladding was cut and fitted, which beautifully pulled this house build together. With this completed we started on the first fix internals, including the underfloor heating, floor screeds, plaster boarding and all first and second fix electricals including an Air Scourc heat pump. Externally finishing with a stand-alone sewage treatment plant installed and commissioned.

We fitted the chosen kitchen and organised the granite work tops to be cut and fitted. The client chose to carry out the tiling, decorating and external landscaping by themselves.
This new building development was completed on time and within budget – with we’re happy to report another three delighted clients.
